THE FINE LINE | with Em Roberts
The Fine Line | EM ROBERTS
Em Roberts is a producer, consultant, and podcast host operating at the center of culture, conversation, and community. With a career built around storytelling and connection, Em’s work spans behind-the-scenes production (currently for New Modern Mom and Mother Mag) and on-mic conversations for her own podcast, The Big Move — always with an eye toward what actually resonates, not just what’s loudest.
Motherhood has sharpened that instinct even further. In this conversation for The Fine Line, Em reflects on how becoming a mom has made her more strategic, decisive, and intentional with her energy — bringing a new clarity to both her work and her priorities. She shares how she stays grounded and connected to her family amid a fast-moving career, why the “mundane” moments matter most, and what’s next as she brings her podcast conversations into real-life spaces. At its core, Em’s perspective is about presence over perfection, focus over noise, and building a life (and career) that actually fits the season you’re in.
How has becoming a mother positively influenced your career?
Becoming a mom has only made me become more and more strategic around where I'm spending energy and honing in on the work, the content, and the conversations that matter the most. It's created this new lens/filter to run things through — because those pockets for just myself are so limited, it's made me smarter and sharper around literally everything that I do.
I think a lot of moms can attest that there is not much room for procrastinating, or being indecisive. We're making snap decisions quickly and efficiently more than ever before. There's something really cool and empowering about that, and maybe we don't highlight it enough — it’s giving CEO and Boss status if you ask me!
How do you stay connected with your family while managing a busy career as a producer, consultant, podcast host, etc.?
My family unit and I love our weekend adventures. Those adventures are looking very different these days after moving back from London to the CT suburbs. But something as small as doing a Costco run together, and just having fun with it and being silly is our jam. We love to get out and stay active. If we aren't running errands around town, we're either at the beach (even in the sub-zero degree weather, watching my husband cold plunge), at one of my many son's sports practices, etc.
Mostly, we focus on having fun doing the seemingly mundane day-to-day things together.
Any "Big Moves" coming up for you that you're most excited about?
One big move is bringing my podcast conversations IRL — whether that's through more in-person community events in the NYC and CT area, or doing more 1:1s in my guests' natural environments, I'm exploring all of it. I think the energy of an in-person conversation is palpable, and being able to offer that to an audience as an experience in-person is powerful. So there’s a lot more to come there, both for my own podcast and my clients whom I produce for. Watch this space!
Who are a few women founders and/or women-owned businesses that you love to follow?
I know I'm not alone as a huge fan of Emma Grede. I think she's such a powerhouse, but she's also real and honest. She doesn't sugarcoat things, and she welcomes guests and other female founders and moms on her podcast, Aspire, who dish out that same sentiment.
I also love to follow Chriselle Lim. I think she does an amazing job of being real and authentic, as well as being unapologetically herself while juggling a number of different businesses. She shares the raw, honest, hard moments, but with grace and a sense of humor, too.
I feel the same way about Valeria Lipovetsky. I love how she's recently empowering creators with her new business, Creator Method. I feel like she's lifting the curtain for influencers and showing what really goes into creating a personal brand: the BTS, the hard, hard work, and the identity and emotional piece of it, too. It's really so multi-faceted and it's an industry that's not backing down anytime soon.
